{"id":494,"date":"2019-04-18T14:11:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-18T14:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ajhassoc.com\/?p=494"},"modified":"2019-04-20T22:31:29","modified_gmt":"2019-04-20T22:31:29","slug":"not-so-random-quotes-about-electric-and-autonomous-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ajhassoc.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/18\/not-so-random-quotes-about-electric-and-autonomous-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"Not So Random Quotes about Electric and Autonomous Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was 1965 and my sister told my family a joke.&nbsp; She said, \u201cRecently a group of people boarded\nan airplane.&nbsp; After being seated an\nannouncement came over the loud speaker.&nbsp;\n\u2018This is a recording.&nbsp; You are\nbeing transported on the first ever automated airplane.&nbsp; There is no pilot.&nbsp; All flight systems are computer controlled\nfrom takeoff to landing.&nbsp; All aspects have\nbeen checked and rechecked many times.&nbsp;\nNothing can go wrong (tick) nothing can go wrong (tick) nothing can go\nwrong (tick)\u2026\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you do not understand the punch line, talk to someone\nover the age of 50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are not expected to laugh, given recent events.&nbsp; Those two Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft were\noperating in autonomous mode, which according to news reports, could not be\ndefeated.&nbsp; These incidents killed many\npeople and will have a devastating effect on Boeing and its employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There will be many lessons upcoming for those advocating for autonomous personal vehicles and trucks, if they care to listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some recent news items that caught my eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">News item:&nbsp; \u201cAll new\ncars sold in the UK and Europe are to be fitted with devices to automatically\nstop drivers exceeding the speed limit under sweeping changes to vehicle safety\nrules that the EU has provisionally agreed.\u201d &nbsp;(The Guardian)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">News item:&nbsp; \u201cThe\nelectric vehicle maker&#8217;s $7,500 tax credit began winding down under current\nlegislation as Tesla exceeded the 200,000 limit cap in 2018. By year-end 2019\nthe tax credit will expire completely.&nbsp; If\npassed, the proposed legislation, the \u201cDriving America Forward Act,\u201d would\nextend the vehicle cap to 600,000 at a rate of $7,000.\u201d&nbsp; (businessinsider.com)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">News item:&nbsp; \u201cU.S.\nsales of the Tesla Model 3 plunged 74% in January compared with December,\naccording to a consumer website, lending credence to rumors that sales of the\nvehicle have fallen off a cliff. The California-based carmaker sold 6,500 Model\n3s in the U.S. in January, compared with 25,250 the month before and 1,875 in\nJanuary 2018, according to InsideEVs.\u201d&nbsp;\n(Los Angeles Times)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">News item:&nbsp; \u201cTesla has\nstarted deliveries of the long-promised Model 3 for $35,000 to a happy few\ncustomers, but the delivery of the promised vehicle is expected to be short\nlived.
